Hey all, I have sold my Prelude and now need a new car.
It's got to be diesel as I do 60 + miles daily.
It needs space.
It needs to be nice.
It also needs to do many many miles to a full tank.
Honda Accord CTDI. 2.2 it is then. Saloon. Between 2003 to 2006.
Can anybody please share knowledge of what to look for and true horror stories about them.
I have been to look at a few already and really like them, but if anybody wants to share some information then I want to hear it.
Im looking at around the 3 to 4 k max mark.
Thanks all
I'm still hunting for a good accord diesel forum

My friend is a Honda tech - I'll ask him if he's had many in with any
probs.

They only have a bad rep due to people buying ones that have high miles and have been neglected over the years, then hitting up the forums when it inevitably goes pear shaped imo. Buy one with full Honda service history and more likely than not you'll have plenty of trouble free motoring.
As for somewhere to ask about the model, I'm a member of the forum TypeAccord, a lot of members have diesel Accords on there and one of the members specialises in tuning them
Forgot to add, as far as model specific problems go the main things to look out for from what I've heard is cracked manifolds and noisy timing chains. Other than that they're meant to be fairly solid

because this is hondas first diesel, so its not going to be better then the german rivals and its going to have big issues.
i dont know about the latest but the model your talking about i would steer well clear of
audi & vw 1.9 is most probably the most reliable diesel engine
but its up to you

yes, cracked manifolds and the timing chain i heard that also.
the plastic manifolds on the petrol isnt nice either, they are going to be introducing 10% ethonol in 2013 in petrol so more problems coming for petrol cars soon.

Thanks for the info ill have a look on type accord soon.
Info from the Honda tech would be great
I've read about the cracked manifolds too. So that's something to look for.
Hmmm diesel tuning, sounds fun
