Hi, just wanted to say hello before my membership reaches 10 yrs in October. Ludes are so reliable I've never needed any help!

Seriously, I've owned a blue 1997 5G 2.2 Vti auto for over 12 yrs, std apart from a manual tensioner I fitted 4 years ago. I had a tensioner fail soon after I bought it and had the guys at Autoworks sort out a full std belt job at the time. But never really trusted the hydraulic tensioner after that so went for a manual one at the next belt change.

Currently on 61k and hardly use it, but just can't bear to part with it.

PS I will own up to a breakdown a couple of years ago when the alternator gave out without warning; have had numerous oil leaks, mostly sorted and had some minor cill welding done for an Mot. Just looking for some pics on my new phone but can't find any atm.

Welcome! Like you say, they are well built and designed and made from top quality parts.

They only go wrong when you start fiddling with them!

Strangely, when I did my cambelt, I switched from the manual tensioner that someone had fitted and went back to hydraulically damped tensioner.

I believe it did make the idle and low revs manoeuvring smoother. The hydraulic tensioner is a good bit more expensive than the manual one so I can imagine why people would chose it. My thoughts are if honda put it there, it was there for a reason. Still, many have run with the manual for years so don't let me worry you!

Found a few pics on the old laptopium, but can't seem to attach even a 2Mb pic?

That's an interesting conversation to have about the tensioner; the guys that did my cambelt job in 2012 were not keen to fit the manual tensioner, so I didn't push it. But that was before KS introduced their much simpler version, which I fitted in 2020. So far, so good....
