My flush spoiler on my type S leaked so I made a new gasket years ago but it was minor.

I checked the spoiler but the bolts holding it on are outside of the rubber seal if that makes sense, so it can't be that. Apparently boot seals are out of stock until the 29th November, so I'l have to wait a while. In the meantime I've patched it up to see if that makes a difference.

5th Gen - Water leak in boot mystery!!
tbh i think its quite difficult to get these cars totally free of water ingress....its just part of ongoing maintenance i think
so far i have replaced rear the rear windscreen lower strip, boot seal and rear light gaskets - also repainted around the boot opening and treated some areas with pu seam sealer and/or tiger seal. In addition to this i have also replaced the sunroof seal and panel and checked drains front and back....although there is a good improvement there is still a small amount of water in the boot after heavy downpours so its just a case of keeping an eye on it and mopping up as and when required. Im still looking at how tightly the bootlid fits as i can see that the boot seal although in great condition and well fitted some water gets onto the lid and runs down towards the lock and over the seal there and down the back panel into the boot. You can adjust the bump stops and the lock assembly-ive had a few goes at this......
the other areas you see leaks are around the door seals or windscreen so lift the carpet in the passenger footwell and check its dry there.
like others have said how the car is parked up also can have an effect.

I have also found that water can get through the black plastic mounting blocks for the rear bumper. The ones that are fixed to the lower rear sides just behind where the sunroof drains exit. If you remove the boot interior plastic side panels, and maybe roll up a microfibre cloth into the small 'wells' behind the metal seam lip, you may have some joy in tracing a leak.
Good luck,
Mike
Good luck,

Ive never heard of that before Mike so good to know..also i remember someone saying the plastic vents at the rear can also let water in - sure i saw someone removed them and tiger sealed them back in place to stop any leaks.

5th Gen - Water leak in boot mystery!!
Lo
I noticed My boot carpet is damp on the right hand side
It looks like it's getting in via the boot seal on that side.
I noticed that the metal has a small lower section at this point for some reason
Has anyone reused their existing seal but with silicone sealant added
Or should I really get a new one
Also found the metal rather brown under the spare wheel
Cheers all

You cant get new seal for 4th gen - dont know about 5th gen
ive reused old seal with silicone but ended up taking that off and fitting a better condition used part
if your seal doesnt have any obvious signs of damage ie/tares or cuts then refitting with some silicone wont do any harm - just avoid using tiger seal as you wont be able to remove that easily if at all

Lo
Thanks for Your reply vanzep
I noticed that the wet area is a little way in from the edge so almost like water is getting in over the rubber seal and dripping down ?
I'm guessing this isn't very likely ?
What are people's thoughts.
Cheers

Quite likely imo and possibly coming in at the bottom of the seal near the lock and along depending on how your parked up - even if level it can still happen - you can adjust the strike/catch for the boot lock to compress the seal a bit more. The boot lid can get a little bit out of shape over time.
