Re: Sid the Trike
Alas Sid has been off the road since Monday from throwing a prop, but all is being sorted at the moment. The damage was to the gearbox uj and the swingarm. New uj arrived today and although the swingarm is easily repairable, my new one will be delivered on Saturday.
This is the reason I probably won't be going to JapFest this year first time in 6 years!!
Here is the photo I was sent by the builder of the swingarm, it's a thing of beauty!!!
Oh, and to put the size of it in perspective, the black circle you can see on the frame on the right hand end, they're about 35mm diameter!!!!

Re: Sid the Trike
Cheers man. It'll be going matt black like the rest of the trike though, going for a bit of stealth look to it. No doubt that'll change in time though

Re: Sid the Trike
The Aerodeck has an oil leak, suspect I've damaged the sumo with it being so low. I've already destroyed the under tray from where it scrapes. I'm going to have to look into an engine lift at some point cos I want to go lower still on it!!
Plus with the frame for the trike being delivered Saturday, that gives me 2 days to get the frame bolted up, new axle on, rear brakes plumbed in, handbrake fitted, and new rear arches built. As come Monday morning, I have to take the prop to be lengthened as the prop place aren't open weekends.
There's a lot to get done, and not a brilliant time scale.

New Swingarm
Well the new swingarm turned up today (rather than Saturday like I was expecting!!) and, erm, yea, it's bloody long!!!! Give you an idea, the propshaft is going to be just shy of 1m long (yes, you read that right!) Will be good though
There's a bit of work to be done to it though:
- Make it hard tail
- Sort the brake lines out for the rear brakes
- Put a plate over the rear half on the top
- Mount the Volvo dog guard (and therefore my arches and rear lights) off of the plate
- Mount the handbrake off of the plate
- Mount my ammo boxes off of the top box rack somehow
This is it so far:

i had a trike in today, only for some braided hoses but i meant to take a picture of it for you, suzuki 800 invader front end on the usual robin axle.
lovely colour too, black with a pile of other colours in a fleck in it very very similar to a picture of a car on one of the japfest threads from this weekend.
guy said it was a hardtail but it had shocks on the back.then i realised he had fitted a towbar bracket to the rear of the axle and a rack to the rear of the seat with the supports for the rack mounted to the axle mounted tow bar bracket.
so soft tail became hard tail when he fitted the rack
somethings due to snap very shortly probably the rack.

Re: Sid the Trike
Haha, oooh, ouch, that does sound like something will probably snap there!! Does sound lovely though.
Hardtails aren't for the faint hearted, that's for sure, and mine definitely will not be one for the faint of heart in the least at this length

The result of the work done today.
- Modified the rear fairings to clear the side shocks
- Mounted the straps on the swingarm
- Mounted the dog guard / arch holder to the straps
- Mounted the rear number plate behind the diff

Prefer the wheel base the new frame gives compared to the old one
Wanted to say 'broken suspension look' but couldn't bring myself to do it.
