Can't seem to get the link to embed with the YouTube button thing.
Anyway, check out the link and see what you reckon.
I'll post up photos of the audio upgrade soon. Here's two:

Lo
Nicely done but I'm really not a fan of big ICE stuff I just don't get the point of it all.
Probably an age thing
Cheers ;)

Audio upgrade & new wheels

Post by norks27 » Tue Jul 10, 2018 9:02 pm

Whilst the Prelude is still in the garage, (MOT failure, now fixed, will update Lude thread), I've been overly generous with the HR-V

I found a set of brand new Honda Sport Pack Alloys for the HR-V, (thanks eBay), hopefully they'll look good when fitted, the original wheels are bubbling nicely. These where still in the original Honda packaging:

Major update is the Audio:

The original dash with Honda badged Pioneer 4x30 watt CD Tuner. Only 2 front speakers installed, (rears and tweeter where optional extras, as was the CD changer). Speakers and the system as a whole is rather poor.

The replacement will be this Pioneer AVH-Z9100DAB:

Originally got a lower model, but decided I needed the dual USB input and better sound quality, (to be fitted next week).

The current Pioneer installed is the AVH-Z5100DAB, single USB input, apple carplay etc. Very nice:

The Pioneer has 2 camera inputs, front and rear cameras installed:

Next - out with the crappy cones and MB Quart fitted:

Fully sound deadened in the door panels, (they basically took the car apart), completely rewired with some thick gauge wiring.
The rear speakers have Mb Quart coaxials.

The HR-V got two amplifiers, a 1400 watt 4ch and 2000 watt 1ch. The subs went to the spare wheel well.

Here's a series of photos showing some of the construction:

So far the sound has been immense with incredible power. Once the new unit goes in I should be able to play. Via a microphone the Pioneer has an auto EQ - not sure if they are as good as the likes you see in home cinema kit?

Certainly never intended to go so far with the upgrade, but I wanted the sound without some boom box occupying the boot. Wheel well seemed the best place.

It's not about a big sound, (sure it can show off), but at listening volumes you hear sooo much more detail, it's a far more musical experience than I've ever heard in a car before.
It can do bass if it wants to, but when I took the car to max-sound.co.uk I sort of specified I wanted a more audiophile approach and not just a big arse boom box to annoy people with. Does that make sense?

With the soundproofing the doors certainly close with a nicer thunk as well :)

Install must have cost a bit?

Errr it did, kinda went over budget due to the wheel well being converted. If I had gone slimline sub I'd have stayed in budget. About 4k all told. And the car is worth how much? I know.

Hi Norks,

Hast still got the original CD tuner?

Might be a good replacement/update for my Silver Prelude Pioneer Cassette Tuner??

Pete
