I had the identical problem on my 3g 'lude, after loads of headscratching, and leaving mine facing either up, or down the incline, found mine blocked exactly the same as jjj's even down to the pipe I/d and one way valve

I've just had one of those 'I should have noticed this sooner but I didn't' moments

the few times I've been crawling around under the car I've noticed that the sump plug looked a bit on the small side, but it just didn't click. Then today I went to change the oil and found this

Somebody has put some kind of sleeve over a smaller sump plug to make it fit the thread in the sump. Problem is it means the crush washer can't be replaced now

I've had a check of the sump and it looks like there's still a thread in it, which makes me wonder why somebody has bodged a sump plug to fit this way?? At any rate I'll have to order a new plug, and go from there. I'm thinking of a magnetic one, are there any downsides to these?

The other worrying scenario is that actually the thread in the sump is fubar and this sleeve was needed to fix it

I hope that's not the case.

What a doofus!

No problem with magnetic sump plugs. Just don't go cheap ebay exclusive as I've heard ("heard") stories of the magnets coming loose from the plugs

Balony or not, not worth the risk really.

I've cleaned the plug down, it is literally a smaller sump plug bonded into a larger thread with sealant. So at least I can not worry about drokked threads for the time being.

Any recommendations for a good magnetic sump plug then? I had one earmarked a while back, was a Mishimoto (apparently) for £12. The listing has ended now though

Stood waiting for the muffin train, really hope this fits. Will know shortly

I have an M14 x 1.5 magnetic drain plug in the post as well so I'll be pissed if it doesn't

All sorted, fresh oil and filter plus the correct size sump plug fitted

Picked up a small haul of goodies at the scrap yard on Saturday

Amongst other things a fog lamp cover to replace the one Laura knocked off, and a chrome grille. Piccy's:

And here's a hole plugged for good measure. Will get it painted when I get the bumper repaired later in the year.

Soon I might actually do some essential maintenance like fitting the new PS belt to replace the one that is eternally slipping

So, I was out late last night and there was an absolute downpour locally. I came round a corner and didn't notice that the whole left hand lane was deep water

as soon as I hit the water I swerved out of it and none was sucked into the intake fortunately. However, my battery light came straight on

all the electrics started dying, my ALB had a jobby fit and even the horn stopped working... I limped it home just about and left it to dry out. Fired it up today though and after almost not starting it's still fecked

I'll try again tomorrow in the hopes it dries out. If not I'm going to have to buy a new alternator methinks

drokking weather!!

In the meantime I'm running my Golf as a daily. This can only end badly
