Finger's crossed for some warm weather over the next couple of days. Is it parked where the sun can catch it, namely the bonnet?

Yeah I'm going to be ripped after running the Golf around. I'll probably tear the steering wheel off the Accord when I go back to driving it

replacement alternators aren't too expensive though if it comes to it.

The alternator doesn't want to play ball

got my multi meter out and it's not charging still. I meant to move the Accord up the back of the drive out the way of my golf but I stupidly turned it off on the front lawn whilst shuffling cars. Now the drokking thing is stuck out there

It has just occurred to me I have a spare alternator on my 2g though if I need it. I'm going to have a stab at sorting my BB4 at the weekend too so who knows maybe I'll end up back in that shortly

I ordered a new alternator for my Accord today - managed to get a nice shiny Valeo one for £49.99 shipped, hope its ok

I've got a gates belt in the post too so hopefully I can crack on with getting this car back on the road. I love driving my Isuzu but I miss being able to go fast

and being able to go around corners

The Accord should be a welcome change once I'm back driving it

Right, I tried to tackle this job over the last couple of days. All I can say is what a drokking ball ache. There is jobby all access as the alternator is on the back of the engine and is blocked by the drive shaft, subframe, air box and chassis leg

The help I had wasn't much use either:

At any rate I got about pulling bits out

Anyway, after many cuts and bruises I got the old alternator out. Got plenty of grease on me in the process as a CV boot must have previously split and nobody cleaned up the resultant mess.

Then I tried to fit the new alternator

long story short the bracket is such a tight fit that the alternator is not going in there without some persuasion. Persuasion that I am unable to provide with the engine in situ... So, unless anyone has any handy tips I'll be pulling the engine out next weekend to get some mallet time in

It will also help me replace the bolt on the A/C belt tensioner pulley that I rounded off due to poor access

On the plus side, If I'm really organised I'll get a timing belt and water pump sorted at the same time. Then I can spank the engine without fear of it shitting it's internals out

Engine out to change an alternator? Man that sucks!

Hope I don't have to do anything like that on on my 3rd! (though it does need a cambelt change of course) and the engine bay looks horribly similar

I think it's partly to do with the new alternator, I reckon the lower bracket is a mm or so wider than the old one. Saying that the old one only came out after a mallet pounding... The rest of it is to do with the stupid position of the alternator. I just can't find a way to get anything in to whack stuff in to place

The A/C belt tensioner is awkwardly located too, I couldn't get a socket on it due to the proximity to the chassis leg and my spanner rounded off the nut

going to have to get a nut splitter on it now

Saying that, if the ancilliaries weren't laid out as they are, then the motor wouldn't have fitted under the low slung bonnet. And the lines on these old Honda's are pretty cool
