the wifes EK civic - d16y8 turbo

Post by lucas » Mon May 20, 2013 12:10 am

hey everyone, this is my fiances EK3 that I bought her for xmas, I deliberately got her a beat up/standard one so She can make it her own

Here is how it sits as of 09/06/13

Image

Image

current list is as follows

* satin black finish
* pink 15x8 et10 rota alecias 195/45/15 tyres
* coilovers
* camber kit all round
* pink beaks tie bar
* pink LCA's
* pink badge
* pink washer jets
* replica front type-r lip
* rear type-s lip
* ebay special type-r grill (with mesh cut out and smoothed)
* ek9 style headlights
* stainless steel manifold
* de-cat
* em1 front bumper with "teeth" cut out
* facelift rear bumper
* tilted standard spoiler
* aerial delete
* rear wiper delete

so lets start from day 1, this is a pic from the ebay ad ...

looks purple doesnt it ?
she was so exited to get a purple car

but naw....
Image

Its a horrible matador red ! lanyway.. this was a pic from towing it back from south wales to glasgow.

And after an eventfull roadtrip, home

And even after I bought the car... this was her surprise birthday pressie !!!!

these pics were all taken before she actually got them.

stretched a set of 195/45/15s on em

Image

and then came her bday

Image

couldn't stop cleaning them
Image

took the headlights out
Image

took them apart and preped, primered and painted the inserts
Image

polished the lens, heres a 50/50
Image

and a before and after ! im still looking for some usdm llights
Image

got an em1 bumper and a fake type R lip
Image

being funny before I put the wheels on

Image

I managed to sell the Vti blades on gumtree for £150 and bought a camber kit with LCA's on egay and we bought some coilovers at Banzai, Crail this year

need the arches rolled

So as she doesn't like the colour, we are painting it satin black
some will think we're doing it as a cheap option but shes always LOVED satin black cars !

so here is a test panel
Image

and matching it up
Image

so its now time to sort out the body work before paint, there was a good bit of rust on the rear arch, and a chunck was missing :/
but im quite handy with fiberglass sooo...

Image

Image

she helped :)

Image

matched up well
Image

last bit, the rear wheels didnt sit the way She wanted to so we got 10mm spacers and fitted, we slightly raised the rear and rolled the arches

before and after

IMO, much better

so shes sitting pretty and just awaiting paint for SCS now

i think it's just great that she shares your love of cars :D

Love the idea of getting one that is a bit of a dog then making something good of it. Reminds me of my S :lol:

Once that paint job is done i reckon it will look amazing 8-)

Looking good man. Only negative view I have is that you referred to it as a "wee civic" :lol:

You make the mods look easy - I spent 3 days fitting coilovers on my mates' girlfriend's ek - all the bolts
were fubar!!

thanks guys ;)

shes always been into cars as much as me, we attend all the clan japan events and she helps out, and she was wanting a "wee civic" ;) for a while :)
dom... there tiny haha

tom, dont get me started on the coilovers lol, fitting them was an absolute piece of cake... but adjusting them wasnt !
they were second hand and one one of the coilovers ( the one pictured actually) the adjusting nut was seized !
was an actual pain in the ass to get free!
we first jammed the coilover under the rear wheel, so it couldnt rotate, we tried the coilover keys with some heat, then wd40... no luck, ruined the nut :(

so i got a chisle and a man hammer.. a mallet 8-) to knock the nut round, but it didnt move.. AT ALL !
we then tried the same thing with a sledge hammer :twisted:

yea.. no luck !

we tried loads of things, but i then remembered about a set of stilsons i saw in my loft when i moved in 8-)
they are about 80 years old man, and wouldnt move from rust, but free'd up with wd40, got em on the nut and stood on it, no go.. ended up being able to jump on it like a bouncy castle! so we then put it on the other way and tried to lift it to turn, gave it a turn and LIFTED THE CAR UP !!!!
so i had a stroke of genius, and i jamed the coilover in the street drainer 8-) stuck the stilsons on and tried to turn.. nope :roll:
so my mate reversed his car back when the stilsons were on to turn em.. FREEDOM !
it was an hour long adventure lol
