Help with exhaust system please!!!
Help with exhaust system please!!!
Hello guy's.
Recently I've had an exhaust noise from the front end of my mk5. Seems to be the manifold. I'm thinking of upgrading the lot and going for a full system. One here on ebay.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm a little concerned purchasing from overseas and not sure how much performance boost this will give.
I'm in the market for a full ss system including a 400 cell cat and the Accord type r intake headers so if any one out there is selling any of this for a bag of chips, you know ehere to come.

If it gives any I will be surprised. I had that full system on my first Lude. Its ok if you need a cheap OEM style replacement but it is not a performance mod.Mosid wrote:not sure how much performance boost this will give.
The ATR exhasut manifold is not much of an improvement over the Lude's one. While the outside may look bigger it is double skinned and the internal skin is only slightly larger than the Prelude's. Plus the modifications needed to get it to fit make it not worth while.
For a 5G if you want to see the benefits of any mods you need to get a tunable ECU. the OBDII ECU that is in 5th gens is very restrictive what gains it will allow. The OBDII ECU will constantly try and adjust things back to OEM parameters.

Thanx for the reply guy's. Sorry for not responding earlier. For some reason, I didn't get reply notifications. Probably gone to junk mail.
Any how, after doing some research, I realised those systems from the states are cheap for a reason.
My current system is fine. My mechanic tells me, It just needs manifold gaskets, top n bottom.
Has any one here ever had to replace them?
If so, is it worth going for the dealer ones or should I go for some thing else?
Also, any recommendations on who to use for a custom exhaust system. Full system, including manifold and a sports cat. Reasonably priced.

Oem Manifold to head gasket is a metal multi layer gasket. Hardly ever goes wrong? You could get a good used one TBH, if you don't fancy buying new Oem and can't find new pattern.Mosid wrote: My current system is fine. My mechanic tells me, It just needs manifold gaskets, top n bottom.

The manifold to downpipe joint uses crush rings. If you can find out the size, you could get these from any decent motor factors, but they're not mega expensive from Honda, tbf.
Where abouts are you located? Also, any recommendations on who to use for a custom exhaust system. Full system, including manifold and a sports cat. Reasonably priced.

Thanx for reply dude.
I'm in Manchester
I've been meaning to do the full exhust mod. Accord type r Intake headers, custom exhaust with sports cat and a remap.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I also have a further problem.
Steering wheel is making screeching sound when turning. A bit lik when you rub a balloon and it makes a squeek.
I had noticed on cold days, that while the car was warming up, the steering would occasionally stiffen uo for a few moments on a turn. But it's never done this when up to temperature.
Steer fund reservoir is on full. Don't know if previous owner used Honda fund or not.
My local mechanic says, it's the ball joints, how ever I have not other ride issues. Car seems fine on the straights and on bumps.
