Crank Pulley Removal

Post by A1ex » Fri Apr 10, 2015 2:36 pm

Ok, so just realised that I need to take the crank pulley off to get to cover off and do the manual tensioner conversion.

What tools do I need and what tricks are there. Everything on this motor has been a PITA so far so I'm fully expecting this to be as well. I noticed some oil in the bottom of the cover so I guess the balance seals have popped out too grr.

Also noticed the pulley is damaged

Would this be a decent replacement?

im my experience, something like a big ass breaker bar with an extension pipe (or whatever fits lol), bit of scaffold etc. to get the crank pulley off - other that that, just a socket set.

this guide could help maybe?

If you can't get a big-ass bar in there then try an impact gun, the bigger the better..

Have you got the engine out? Some how getting it to a garage for the impact gun is my preferred way, I bought a snap on impact gun in the end, 1100ft/lb of release torque ;)
236bhp and 170ft/lb stock

I can get the engine out relatively easily, half of it is on my dining table at the moment so access the to mounts is easy. Getting it to a garage, not so much.

what i have done before to remove the crank pulley was:

1. Put on 5th gear the transmission
2. Remove the metal cover from the Flywheel
3. Use a Flat Screwdriver to get it hook it up in the teeth of the FlyWheel, so the Flywheel cant move
4. Use a 19 mm Socket with a breaker bar with a extension

Now is easy to work with CrankPulley Tool with only two breaker bar, 1st to be hook with the CrankPulley and the 2nd with the 19 mm socket and having and extension to brake loose the bolt

i did bought the crankpulley tool from ebay and was easy to work with the engine inside.

Snap on mg725, I think I paid £150 but then I also think it's stolen from rolls royce.

The battery impact guns can do nearly 500 ft/lb which maybe enough if you know anyone you could borrow it from?
