Valve clearances
Hi guys how you all doing? It’s been a while, still got my lude, which only really gets used a handful of times per year on track. I’ve got a bit of top end knock, I think I could do with checking my valve clearances. Is there a how to guide? Any do’s and don’ts? Any specialist tools required? Or should I just take it up to Rich at PAW? Any help/advice appreciated. Thanks Ash
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

This is a good guide for it if you want to try it yourself.

That's a way better guide, Drax. Much more detail than the video. I'll be checking all of mine once I've stripped the timing side down to change all my seals.

Just note there are errors in that guide, which are corrected in the conversation lower down. Namely the need to remove the splash shield is not necessary and the feeler gauge location should be between the cam lobe and rocker, not the valve top and rocker.

You can buy the special tool which is not expensive, but you can also get away with a deep 10mm socket and a pair of vice/mole grips as long as you have a flat blade screwdriver that fits through the socket. Also if you remove the spark plugs you can easily rotate the engine off the power steering pump pulley, no need to jack up the car or take the wheel off.
Dont forget to recheck them all and adjust until you are happy, i went through them 3 times in total until i was 110%.

Thanks guys, look like I’ll give it a go. Where’s the best place to get the valve adjustment tool from? And just to clarify I need to gap between lobe and rocker?
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

My picture lower down fell foul of the photobucket twattery and cant be seen anymore. It could do with editing the original post for clarity.
