Timing belt snapped, no damage?

Post by stinkypaul » Sun Feb 25, 2024 5:58 pm

So the timing belt has snapped. Sad times. And today I've gone to take a look at the damage. Can't see any.
If anyone was to ask me what's the chance of no damage if the timing belt snapped I would say 0%.
I've had a borescope in each cylinder and the tops of the pistons look fine. No dents, chips, new marks.
No glitter in the oil.
The timing belt had wedged between the cam pulleys, jamming them in place.

Except from taking the valves out and seeing how bent they are is there another way to see if they are bent?

H22? They are a non interference engine out of vtec.

The chance of no damage if your not in vtec is 100%.

Just put a belt on it and off you go.

And I was just about to order an engine. Thank you @Vtecmec. I'll put a new belt on and see how it goes. I'll compression test it after.
I'll report back in a few days

yep, as mec says as long as it didnt snap whilst in vtec then you should be fine. i had my belt chewed when the balance shaft bung popped out and jammed between the belt and block - plopped a new belt on (and new bung) and away i went
