Looks like you can get a kit to convert a 3rd gen lude to 4WD and still keep the 4WS too.

After studying the photo of the underside of his car I can see he's using leaf spring rear setup and a solid rear beam.

Anything is possible.
I have seen similar being developed with the 4th and 5th gens, though its no where near as elegant as this 3rd gen setup.

The 4th/5th gen not only loses the fuel tank (and therefore boot space for its relocation) but it also requires the rear suspension to go in the bin and it looks counterproductive to the preludes known handling capabilities. Probably ok for a drag setup.
All of this is very expensive too, with no guarentee of you being happy with the outcome. You'd be better just buying a second/third 4WD car on the side.......
