i think he may be getting confused with the 4ws locking tool, but thats only used for getting a car with 4ws tracked properly, nothing to do with diagnosing.
have you checked to see if the bulb is missing from the dash yet? that's where i'd start as others have mentioned already

As above, refitting the bulb is the only place to start.
Once that is fitted, you can read the error codes from the car utilising a paperclip and counting bulb flashes.

Haven't checked yet but it'll be either gone or out so I'll buy some replacement bulbs to fit in there.
