Do all 3 of the below in this order to reset any ABS/4WS errors on the 5th Gen.
Short the Service Connector
1. Remove the fabric service hatch to gain access to the blue service connector.
2. Unplug the top connector, there should be two cables going to it.
3. Bend a paper clip and attach an end into each side of the connector.
Reset ABS & clear fault codes
1. Press the brake pedal and hold.
2. Turn the ignition key to the second position (not starting the car).
3. When the ABS light goes out take your foot off the brake.
4. The light will come back on, press the brake pedal again and hold.
5. After the light goes out, release the pedal.
6. The light will blink twice to indicate the DTC code was erased.
Reset 4WS & clear fault codes
1. Apply the hand brake.
2. Turn the steering wheel to CLOCKWISE (right) 45-65 degrees and hold it that way.
3. Turn the ignition key to the second position (not starting the car).
You'll see that all your warning lights will go on and off, don't pay attention to them.
4. After your 4WS light goes OFF, turn the steering wheel to CENTRE (turn it left) within 4 seconds and hold it still.
5. When your 4WS light turns ON, turn the steering wheel CLOCKWISE again to 45-60 degrees and hold still (again within 4 seconds).
6. When the 4WS light goes OFF, turn the wheel to the centre position again within 4 seconds and hold it still.
7. If your 4WS light blinks TWICE then you succeeded. Turn the ignition off, remove the short on the service connector, start your engine and test.
7. If it stays on after this that means you failed, so simply turn the ignition off and go back to step one and try again.
Should take approx 5 minutes to do, maybe 10 if you do not turn the wheel correctly.. Looks harder than it actually is!
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.
