How does this differ to the previous set up?

The last setup was an AJAX based chat system that was done entirely in the browser. It worked well till the developers gave up on it, at which point it stopped working properly as Firefox, Chrome, Opera etc updated themselves.

After that, we moved to IRC.

Every weekday, 9-5 you'll find at least two, usually three of us....
