I think you have it pointed at the road.....
Though a little stepper motor might be a good idea for tailgaters
Not sure about the legality. They can pull me and I can tell me its not allowed and I'll unplug it and take it off the car. I'm just waiting for some fog to test it out.

Yep. Law says you can only show a red light as fog warning. I doubt there is a clause saying one type or the other. I will have a look though. I think in fog it will display a 3' triangle out past my tail about 3 feet. Thats gotta help people see you...

Re: Isuzu Bighorn
I forgot to mention that the Bighorn passed its retest and so it's now roadworthy again
I also noticed that below the ash tray there is a single din hole currently occupied by the digital clock and a cubby hole. This looks like a perfect spot to relocate the stereo to, in order to fit a single din gauge panel at the top of the dash where the stereo currently lives. I might have to have a bit of a play at the weekend and see if I can get the stereo moved - if i can then that might give me the motivation to sort out some gauges I'm thinking boost, oil temp and tranny fluid temp, I'm open to better suggestions though...

EGT will be way more useful in a big turbo diesel is what I have found from weeks of research. All the Aussie guys fit boost and egt first. Those are the two they use above all others.
Soon as you have them in and know the levels and limits that are safe you change your whole driving style. I already drive softer because of it. Its a great active indication of current engine load, rather than a reactive scale like oil temps.
I am trying to drive withing 500c at the moment. Soon as you realise you are subjecting your turbo to over 700c for no good reason you back off the gas pretty quick
You need to place the sensor in the manifold though. After the turbo is pretty pointless by all accounts, though much easier to do.
I would highly recommend the Auber instruments. They sent me over $300 worth of stuff through as £28 so I paid NO import duty. Very nice of them. Customer service get back to you with technical queries and the units are great.
Transmission oil temp
It looks like AUDI are developing a laser triangle foglight as OE standard kit so.......all good

Re: Isuzu Bighorn
Hmm I hadn't thought of EGT - Will have a look in to that one. Getting a sensor into the manifold won't be a problem at all, there's a blanking plate bolted to the top of it currently which can be taken off to be drilled and threaded.
I relocated my radio today, so now the top slot in the dash is free for gauges Only prblem is the blanking plate I bought doesn't fit It's slightly too tall so I need to grind it down or something. Kind of a pisser as now I've got to put the dash back together with a gaping hole in it.
So the winning combo is boost, EGT and ATF temp

Those seem to be the ones the aussies do and they get to drive trucks offroad just going to the shop for milk
Boost only in tandem with a boost controller. Not to increase boost, but to control the wastegate better and get a solid boost value. these big diesels run boost quite a bit and it helps to have it available apparently. I'm still learning.. I have yet to fit my controller because I wanted to get a couple of weeks driving without it to gain a baseline.
I am now an EGT driver Its so instant a response you know what the engine is doing, and more importantly that its you doing it You boot it for the laugh and it tells you you are subjecting your turbo vanes to over 700c so you back off with chargrin. Then the flipside.... you get to feel joyfully smug getting 240-280c while cruising at 60 if you are really careful. Its interesting to see what raises and lowers temps as well. O/D raises them. Running in 3 rather than locked and they come down. Obviously the ATF goes up though
Would you use the EGR plate? If so is it in the middle of the runners? The surf one could have been used but it really only gives you a good picture of cylinder 4 because its up the end of the row. If yours sits anywhere near the joint to the downpipe to the turbo you are laughing. I had to take off the manifold as I didnt fancy the alternative of drilling and tapping while the engine was running
Had the same issue with a blanking plate. Its was massive. the right size but massive

Unercover Isuzu
I got a bit bored today, so I raided the knackered Honda Horizon at my parent's house to pilfer some of the cool bits for my Bighorn. I've been missing the rear wind deflectors since I got my Isuzu, so I've swapped them over from the Honda - I'm thinking that they should be handy in that I can roll the rear windows down a few inches for the mutts and they won't be able to stick their faces out The other thing I nabbed was the front grille, as my existing one was a bit manky. All the chrome had peeled off and it just looked Clubbing Eddy.
Roll on the photos of the Hondsuzu:
Looks much better with the full set of wind deflectors imo
I also checked my oil and ATF, and I was very pleased to see that neither of them had dropped visibly since I last checked them. My ATF is still cherry red too, so it's not gone the way of the Horizon yet
Need to replace the aux belts soon and my timing belt light is on so will need to address that at some point in the near future...
