Seat belts have had it

Post by James 5th gen » Thu Mar 08, 2018 3:52 pm

Okay so both my front seat belts have completely given up on retracting, obviously they are old but I’m guessing this is a common issue. Can I clean these up somehow or will they need replacing? Thanks

Clean them with all purpose cleaner (Tesco ?) without getting them too wet, the keep them extended whilst drying out.

5th gens have a seat belt recall not sure if it extends to UK but in America there is. Maybe give Honda a call and see if that is valid in UK

I’ll have to give them a clean up later on then, I know it’s not been recalled as that’s been checked recently. Thanks

I have the same problem on my drive side seat belt. I think over time they perish and stop retracting. If only I took my working seat belt from the Type-S I broke last year and still kept it.

Will give cleaning a go too.

I fixed this years ago (pre 2005) on my previous 1997 Prelude. I vaguely remember drilling some small holes in the seatbelt retractor housing and spraying in some WD-40. I've been meaning to do this with my current Prelude for a while and might tackle it in the next few weeks as I might have extra reason to remove that interior panel.
