Guy in the Z4 had just bought it, was driving it home from the garage in Edinburgh where he'd handed over a wodge of readies. Garage were the ones who fitted the hardtop, which means it could get interesting...

My car and a ford transit were the only vehicles to get any damage, as we were the two cars behind the guy when this happened

Well, it's official. The car has been assessed and the engineer has valued the repair work at £5,600 + VAT, or around £6,800

So, I have told them I want to buy it back, and commenced the fight to get the money the car is worth. Current offer from insurance is £5,160 - so have told them to take a hike - as you couldn't buy one the spec/miles/condition etc of mine for less than £7,500.

Happily insurance have already told the assessor to release the car to me, so I'm collecting her on Tuesday afternoon and will take things from there, but she will ride again! I'll get some pictures etc when I have her back. Not enjoying all this nonsense at all, it's really put me off BMW's even more

Aye, you and me both! They basically went on the Honda recommendation for a front end impact and were planning to replace everything with brand new Honda parts.

Opens at the front, hinges at the screen end. But the car has a pop up bonnet system to help in pedestrian impacts, it fires at the hinges, which are designed to deform, and puts a bigger space between the engine and bonnet. This kind of deal:

Unless I horribly missed something, I just need new hinges to make the bonnet work properly again - will find that out on Tuesday I suppose!
