True, I've passed an MOT with a 4WS light on in the past.

aggghhhh - i didnt see these recent posts.... :(
I thought any warning light on the dash was an automatic fail - so i spent some time today taking the speedo out and removing the 4ws bulb  just to give me more time to fix the issue.....
Your probably right about this and the 4ws bulb had been removed by prev owner and recently when i replaced the speedo which had gone wonky I made sure 4ws bulb was fitted - talk about giving myself work to do

Depends how the MOT tester interprets the 4WS light. If they interpret it as "ESC", then they would fail it.

Not sure when you put yours through MOT with 4WS light on vtecmec, but the warning light 'fail' was only extended to include things like ESC a couple of years ago (struggling to find exactly when though tbh - 2018 or 2020!)?

It was not more than 4 years ago, and my tester was a real pedant.

I think you could argue that rear steering is not ESC though.

Electronic stability control is also referred to as ESC, ESP, VDC, and DSC, among many other names. Some systems may be able to be switched off by a switch, whilst others might only be able to be switched off using an electronic menu system.

The dashboard warning lamp for these systems might take various forms and you should only fail a vehicle if you’re certain that the warning lamp is indicating an ESC malfunction. You might need to check the owner’s handbook.
