THE BEGINNING

Bought the car for £3500. The engine had spun a bearing so the previous owner rebuilt the engine with a reground crank, mahle 11.5:1 +25 overbore pistons. It ran sweet and i couldnt be happier.
I got it at 70k miles and unfortunately the engine lasted just 7k. I ran the car dry and the reground crank didnt help but totally my own fault.

So the engine has completely fooked. The crank is oval shaped. Big end 4 is no longer present and its somewhere in millions of places in the oil. Big end 3 was close to gone. Pistons are scoured and the block is only good for scrap metal. The head however has survived for the most part but still requires some work.

So new engine move was a good idea.

PSPEC true shortshifter

1st mod i did apart from headunit was a Pspec short shifter. The only propper one for a 5th Gen.

Copy and pasted my review from graveyard forum.

Only place to get it is from the US. So you will have to import it.
http://www.pspectuning.com/

Email Pete Stefanowicz at [email protected] and he will very quickly get back to you. It cost me a total of £113 including the $35 shipping but i got bent over and raped but customs and they wanted £39 charge. Yes pure rape but i guess thats the price for importing good.
Other than that Pete gives excellent service, responded to my emails very quickly and helped me well. It took just over 2 weeks to get here but remember parcel force held onto it until i paid customs to more like a week to get here.

So then whats it all about. Well basically since i have moved from 4th Gen to 5th Gen as you know there is a major difference in gear changing. I preferred my 4th Gens tighter shorted and lower throw. The 5th Gen in comparison is way more loose and longer. Plus the gear stick is quit high. I missed the feel alot so i bought this.

Out of the box you are welcomed to some Lube. Lube is always good. Wink Wink.
The quality of the shifter is spot on. Very weighty stainless steel. Very well made and put together. Way way better than stock welded stuff and nice new aluminium bushing to replace the crappy rubber bushings.

Installation is an absolute breeze. Used the online tutorial on the PSPEC website and it took only 2 hours but adjusting to my tastes. Some of the removals are an absolute bitch like retaining clips that need to be broken but some beer, aggression and a massive hammer always helps.

Im not going to show install images as they can be seen on the website.

As for adjusting and getting your own setup this requires some testing. I didnt drives i just changed gear with engine off.
1st thing to notice it how much more weighty it is. A good weightyness.

Here are some measurements i did of the settings comparison.

Stock height and throw of the gears. (i measured these from the tip without the gearknob and to the front bottom part of the centre dash trim)
1-10.5cm
2-20cm
3-10.5
4-20
5-10.5
R-20

PSPEC shortest throw
1-9
2-16.5
3-9
4-16.5
5-9
R-16.5

PSPEC next throw up
1-9.25
2-17.5
3-9.25
4-17.5
5-9.25
R-17.5

PSPEC next throw up
1-9.5
2-17.5
3-9.5
4-17.5
5-9.5
R-17.5

PSPEC Longest throw
1-10
2-18
3-10
4-18
5-10
R-18

The height can be adjust from around 17cm to 25cm. Is its to low it gets stuck on the shifter frame that holds the shifter in place. If the shift is shortest and is lower it rubs against the trim which can be cut away to use it.

I have the height on lower enough so it doesnt touch the frame and the throw is on the 4th setting. Im still messing with the setting but all i can say is, its shorter and much crisper. I tried the lower gearstick setting but i couldnt get the gear knob back on sice the plastic clip to hold it into place would move down from it being stopped by the shifter.
Since the throw is weightier i dont mishift. You stay out of the clutch more so shifting is a quick breeze. Very crisp and precise shift. Feels very good.

So is it worth the £113? Yes it is. Great quality and good results.

Is it worth £150 including customs? Hummm i not sure. Getting raped by customs is never good. Considering iv had to pay roughly £100 in custom charges over the past month from other rare Prelude stuff iv bought. Cant really do anything about it.

Is shifting better than touching yourself now? Thats a tough one. Shifting when i VTEC is always great, this makes it better but when Viagra timing and erection control (VTEC) kick in, touching yourself is amazing too. Decide for yourself.

Am i happy with this sexyness? Yes very. Great product and worth this sodding review for you sad touchers.

CLEANING, RUST TREATMENT & UNDERSEALING

Pressure washed and cleaned with Bilt Hamber Surfex HD and the properly dried.

The underseal is Bilt Hamber Underbody (UB) i did 3 coats. 1st coat is the hardest to do but primes well. 24 hours between coats and the 2nd and 3rd coats go on really thick. Smells sexual.

I then moved onto the exhaust head shields, i treated these with Bilt Hamber deox C and deox gel, degreased and primed with Bilt Hamber Electrox.
Then i put some second skin spectrum sludge on them to sound deaden them to reduce zorst noise. Its added barley ANY weight.
