have I found cause of slight lefthand pull??

Post by lewd lude lover » Wed Aug 08, 2012 4:11 pm

I think I might have worked out the slight left hand pull on the white lude. It is not a problem but it is there.

after the national meet I had two new Yoko AD08's on the front. Hey presto, no pull. tracking straight and true.

Now I'm thinking........

We only go round roundabouts one way, hitting the lefthand tyre harder than the right. I hit roundabouts pretty hard given the chance so I am thinking I am wearing the outside of the tyre faster than the right which is giving a slight unbalance to the car after a few hundred miles. I am of course on 180 compound AD08's. nice and soft..
This brainwave arrived after racewars where i used one side of the track a little more than the other. before hand? no pull. just after? no pull; but it has everso slightly begun to after another 50 miles or so.

The lefthand tyre is visibly worn a bit more than the right....

what do you think?

does this happen on track tyres when you only go round one way?

Sounds reasonable to me.

If you find a definite answer let me know.

Mine is driving me nuts :(

try swapping the two front wheels over. if it swaps sides on the pull you have your answer i think.

I'm going to go out and try that now.

When I bought the car it didn't do it, after a few thousand miles it started. Changed the wheels and tyres and it was fine for ages then started again a couple of weeks ago.

Not brakes, suspension, tyre pressures, handbrake, wheel bearings etc. I have checked/cleaned/stripped and rebuilt all of those.

I will let you know if it works.

I have a tiny fraction of positive camber at the NS and the RHS is almost spot on zero.

It's too close to really adjust, but it's probably enough to cause the effect, coupled with the roads all being cambered to the left. Well, if they are, if you can call them roads, etc.

I think psychologically, one frequently corners hard to the right than to the left. It's to do with ending up in a field being OK, but taking out some poor schmuck coming the other way is antisocial and it hurts a lot.

I tend to rotate mine, in order to even it all out. 4WS can only do so much.

My dad's Shogun always knocks out the outside edge of the nearside front before anything else - for exactly that reason - roundabouts.

This, confidence wise I always go harder into right hand bends and find myself almost leaning in on left hand corners like I'm on a bike or something  It always feels to me like I'm nearer to losing it on a left hander.

I have never found track tyre wear to effect pulling. IMO it could be a castor problem from a slightly bent radius rod. Only a wheel alignment specialist will be able to tell you that though.
