NCCMUR'S 1997 Black VTI
**** I copied this over from PUK so hopefully it makes sense, originally posted july/august 2011**** enjoy
after reading a few profiles thought i should get one up
got my first lude in 2008 - 1998 2.0 bb9...saw it in autotrader coming home from looking at a vectra anyway bought it and got it repaired and resprayed after about a month of getting it.
kept it pretty much standard and in june i found myself on PUK trying to get some advice on a fecking annoying suspension issue.
some shady mobile pics of it..
after a few weeks of being on PUK i decided it was time to spend some money on the lude ,then i came across this advert....
It's with a heavy heart I write this post...
I'm moving to Germany soon, so the time has come to sell my beloved Lude!
Black manual 2.2 VTi (1997).
106,000 miles on the clock.
It has a few wee rust spots here n there as you'd expect, but nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of TLC.
MOT'd till March 2012, however the road tax has expired, which I'll obviously take into account when it comes to price.
Make me an offer!!!
PM's welcome.
after a few pms and a trip to glasgow with the works recovery wagon i came home with this...
these pics were taken by pure led stew when he first got the car
got the car in middle of june so decided to wait until july 1st to get it on the road so time for some work to be done
started with the brakes. stripped them all down cleaned everything up,plenty copaslip everywhere and refitted everything brakes sound.(although not without hassles ie seized slider pin )
then gave engine some new plugs ,oil, filters and just a general clean under the bonnet.
then onto the wheels. car came fitted with oem sawblades and a spare set of ep3s (one with a puncture) or so i thought
took the punctured one to tyre dealers and straight away he saw the problem....a 1 inch crack on the inside of the wheel drokk
took it round to fabrication place near my work (alloy division no less ) and got the crack welded perfect! new tyre aswell and that was me 100 sheets lighter
took all the wheels to my work and repainted them(wasnt too keen on gunmetal colour)
before and after...
i prefer silver on a black car maybe not for everyone
took them home and fitted them....
gave the car a wash and took a few more pics....
and of course the obligatory reflection shot
so july arrived a trip to DVLA in edinburgh and tax in hand ..home to get her on the road [smilie=hate-tunz.gif]
after one day downpipe flexi started blowin like drokk
after looking.... big split in it AARRRGGHHHH tin of wd later removed downpipe right onto e-bay got an oem downpipe for a fiver
waited two days for it ..ripped open packaging got tools together and got cracking.........for about two seconds.....as soon as i layed gasket on new downpipe totally different WTF aftermarket manifold plus knackerd downpipe was about 8ins longer
so took downpipe to work got my mate to weld the blowing sections together and fitted it ...
got about 8hrs out of it ...by this time i wanted to torch the fuckin car
so back off it came ,back to work and just welded right over the top of the flexi
got home fitted it ...JOBS A GOODUN!!! at least till after my holiday
got an oem manifold (thanks to ziyaan) goin to get rest of oem system later on
so onto the bodywork and repaint
noticed a small hole on nsr quarter in wheelarch......u know whats comin
arranged with my mate to weld it ...then we got into it
the entire inner wheelarch had been fannied up before the entire length of it....
7 hours of welding later we were done hammered with seam sealer at weekend and today a litre of underseal later inner wheelarch sorted getting it in either this weekend or next for full respray so ill keep you all posted.
starting the bodywork tomorrow
just get all the car park dents sorted first then respray next weekend
a pair of clear side repeaters required
motegi lip kit(should have made more of an effort n got them from bwgixer on here)
then after my holidays get round to replacing rest of exhaust and pulling the codes for the 4ws
thats all in the near future
will be taking some "during and after pics "when i respray it so stay tuned
made a start to the bodywork today......
started with the pass quarter that we rewelded
started sanding it getting rid of previous jobby repair
prelude arches do have good metal!!!!
first coat of filler
filler rubbed and old paintwork feathered
done all wee car park dents on passenger side etch primed bare metal and applied roll-on high build primer...
after doing this got the car on the ramp and blitzed the underneath with stonechip then once dry coated everything with waxoyl so should keep underneath pretty protected for the coming years!!!
start on drivers side thru the week, more pics to follow
well the weekend came time to get into the lude!!!!
rubbed all the primer on the repairs prepped the rest of car(bumpers and spoiler were done on friday night no pics tho)
washed down and masked up
a coat of primer, then two coats of basecoat(flamenco black)2 dropcoats...
after basecoat dry on to the lacquer....
after that just left it overnight without baking(easier to polish)
sunday morning out of the oven, polished, masking removed ready to refit...
rocker cover needs doing might be giving dave(jdm-bb4) a shout
after a few hours of refitting, fag breaks and just general arseing about may i present to you my 1997 2.2 vti.............
rear wheel arches stonechipped on lip of arch (idea stolen from bmw/porsche)
well thats the respray done im chuffed with it even if i do say so myself
have a pair of clear indicators heading my way, everything else can wait till after my holidays
and yes i know it needs a front lip will be trying to get one shortly
hope you all like my efforts
cheers guys!!
today i fixed my cruise control woohoo great toy!!!
had a look at the brake and clutch pedals and they both have little switches above them however i noticed that when the brake pedal was normal ie not pressed the plunger on the switch was pushed back dead
on the clutch pedal however the plunger was slightly sticking out so a quick adjustment ith a 17mm spanner, wee turn of the sleeve and hey presto CRUISE CONTROL
first time iv had a car with cc novelty will probably wear off quick
just the 4ws to rectify now and all gadgets will be workin.
today was the day to try and fix the 4ws
printed off the how-to for a 4ws reset
took me about 4 attempts but hey presto thats all it needed was a reset
just about took the side out the lude reversing into the drive turns so tightly
the abs was showing a fault but no light on when driving so abs reset cured that
finally the cel is flashing code 41 "primary o2 sensor heating" but again not on when driving probably caused this myself when i had all the hassle with my downpipe
however i cant seem to find a reset for the cel light in the how-tos or in the manual can anyone point me in the right direction please its the only issue outstanding
cheers guys
painted my heat shield ready for when i refit oem system...........
